Xenophobic attacks have been rampant in some parts of South Africa for the past month. According to CNN,
these attacks originated from verbal spews from the Zulu King stating
that foreigners should leave South Africa because they are taking over
jobs from South African citizens. The United Nations claims that the
attacks started during a labor dispute between a foreign worker and a
South African born worker.
The crux of the matter is that some South Africans are afraid that
foreigners are going to take over their jobs, land and country and they
feel a need to physically attack, in some cases kill, these foreigners
including Nigerians who own businesses and work in South Africa, in
order to quench their Xenophobia.
With regards to music, every BIG Nigerian artist from P Square to Davido,
has flown to South Africa to shoot at least one of their music videos.
Back in 2007 shooting your video in South Africa kind of made videos
look more attractive because of the scenery and the high quality of
equipment used to capture visuals. Today the story is different,
because many of our Nigerian video directors are able to make use of
Nigeria’s beauty and capture it on video in a very attractive manner.
These days, most Nigerian music videos are shot in Nigeria. However,
some artist continue to travel to South Africa to shoot some of their
videos, but instead of using the South African directors like they used
to, they are now allowing Nigerian, seasoned directors such as Clarence
Peters and Sesan handle the directing of the videos.
Listed below are some very good videos shot, directed and edited in
South Africa for TOP Nigerian Artists who paid top dollar from their
hard earned money. That is, money earned in Nigeria and pumped into the
South African economy. Most of these videos were shot by our good friend
God Father, a South African native, who hired a South
African technical crew along with South African characters that featured
in the videos.
